Five psychiatric patients will be shifted from the district jail here to Sambalpur jail as there is a change in their behaviour, according to jail Superintendent Bramhananda Sahoo. As 24 such patients are staying among 641 other inmates in the jail, it becomes difficult to attend them for the lack of any psychiatrist neither in the jail nor at the district headquarters hospital.
The jails in Cuttack, Baripada, Berhampur, and Sambalpur have psychiatrists to address the problems of such patients under their respective divisions. As the post at Berhampur jail has been lying vacant for the last many months, the Koraput district jail is being attended by the psychiatrist at Sambalpur. However, owing to his busy schedule he too attended the patients at Koraput only in October last, said the Superintendent.
