Doordarshan Kendra, Sambalpur has won laurels by bagging two annual national awards at the just concluded annual award presentation ceremony of the national broadcaster – Doordarshan – in New Delhi.
According to the Kendra’s executive producer P.L.Das, two documentaries produced by the Kendra – Paschimataal and Pakshira Nida claimed the awards. “ Paschimataal is a unique documentary on Sambalpuri dance and music. The 26-minute film directed by brilliant choreographer Ranjan Sahu features four dance troupes and shows the 14 musical instruments that accompany the captivating folk dance form,” said Das.
Similarly, Pakshira Nida, the half-an-hour film, documents the lifestyle of 29 types of birds found in Sambalpur region. It took Surendra Mohan Pradhan three years to complete the research on the locally found birds and document their nesting style and breeding habits, Das added. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni presented the awards in New Delhi on Saturday, he said.
