The municipal director has summoned the Sambalpur civic body chairperson and seven councilors to seek their view on the district collector’s recommendations to dissolve the municipal council. The Sambalpur collector had sent the recommendation to the state government two months ago following allegations of tender fixing against the chairperson, Reena Trivedi.
“We have received a notice by the municipal director. He has asked us to be personally present in his office on December 30 to show cause why the municipal council should not be dissolved,” a BJP councilor said on Wednesday.
“I do not see any reason to dissolve an elected council. We will definitely fight for justice,” the chairperson said on Wednesday, reacting to the municipal director’s show cause notice.
Sources said the municipal chairperson had assigned the town’s sanitary work to a Cuttack-based agency at a much higher rate in comparison to the previous rate without the council’s approval. Out of the total of 29 councilors, 21 had requested the collector to initiate action against the alleged tender fixing.
