At least five police personnel were injured when miscreants hurled hand bombs at them near Chaudhary Chowk, on the outskirts of Sambalpur town on Saturday. The incident took place when police arrived at a house which the miscreants attempted to loot.
Police nabbed five members of the gang within a few hours of the incident. Police also seized arms from them.
“We suspect their involvement in several other incidents that had taken place in the district in the recent past. Investigation is on to identify the other persons of the gang. However, we feel it’s a major breakthrough of the district police, as we are hopeful of getting important clues from them,” additional SP (Sambalpur) D K Deo said.
