A heat wave has gripped several parts of Odisha with the district headquarter town of Sambalpur Monday recording 44.1 degrees Celsius, the day’s highest in the state, an official said.
While two other places, Sonepur and Titilagarh, recorded 44 degrees Celsius each, at least ten other places recorded between 40 and 43 degrees, a senior official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.
The other places which recorded high temperatures included Hirakud (43.5 degrees), Jharsuguda (43.2 degrees) and Sundergarh (42.6 degrees), he added.
The state capital Bhubaneswar and its adjoining Cuttack city remained comparatively cool, recording a maximum temperature of 40.2 and 38.6 degrees Celsius, respectively, he added.
