The 24-hour bandh call given by Maoists had its impact on western Odisha districts today with road communications coming to a grinding halt even as business establishments and government offices were open in many parts during the day.
The outfit had given a day’s bandh call in the districts of Bolangir, Bargarh, Nuapada and others demanding stop of green hunt operation and release of innocent tribals booked on charge of Maoists.
In Bolangir, the Maoists damaged a telephone tower by blasting it while they set fire on a kendu leaf godown under Khaprakhol block area. A report from Nuapada said that bus service was paralysed resulting in no movement from Nuapada to Padampur and Chhatishgarh to Khariar. The Maoist supporters also felled large trees on the roads and disrupted traffic in many places.
