Odisha’s chief minister Naveen Patnaik said on Wednesday that the State government is keen to bring tribal districts on par with other developed districts in Odisha.
Addressing a gathering at Bhangabari in Bhawanipatna, Patnaik said the government is sincerely working for the development of the back ward regions and deprived class in the State. “We have launched a series of developmental programmes and schemes for these regions and appealed the Centre for special funding for tribal pockets,” he said.
Pattnaik laid foundation stone for the Government Medical College at Bhangabari in Bhawanipatna besides several other projects in Kalahandi district. He expressed his pleasure on Vedanta foundation extending financial support for setting up the infrastructure for the Medical College. The work is expected to be completed by 2018.
The chief minister also inaugurated augmentation of water supply from Hati River to Bhawanipatna which would benefit a population of 80,000, 33 KV Grid Substation near Kusa Dangri of Bhawanipatna, additional work shop of government-run IIT at Bhawanipatna, three mini stadiums at Kesinga, Dasigaon of Junagarh block and Utkella of Kesinga block.
He also inaugurated two hostels at Parmanandpur and Kusurla aimed at providing vocational training to the girls and laid foundation stone for 300-seat boys’ and girls’ hostel building of Bhawanipatna (Autonomous) College, new town hall of Bhawanipatna along with 26 lift irrigation projects in Narla, Madanpur Rampur and Karlamunda blocks.
Pattnaik also flagged off mobile health unit and innovative auto-rickshaw ambulances.
The chief minister was accompanied by finance minister Pradip Kumar Amat, urban development minister Puspendra Singh Deo, Loksabha MP Arka Kesari Deo and all MLAs of the district.
Earlier today a massive congregation of Self Help Groups (SHGs) of the district was held at Bhangabari before the arrival of the chief minister.
