Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday, announced to organize the prestigious “FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023” and the construction of a new Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. The stadium, which can accommodate 20,000 spectators, will be the largest hockey stadium in India.
The stadium will be built on 15 acres of land On the premises of Biju Patnaik University of Technology Rourkela.
The tournament will be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. Sundargarh district is the destination of hockey talent. Many great hockey players from the district have represented the country at the international level. Leading the Indian team, Dilip Tirkey and Sunita Lakra have brought glory to the country.
Recently, a high-level delegation from the state government, the International Hockey Federation, the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and Hockey India visited Rourkela.
