Heavy rain in Sambalpur district has cut off Naktideul block from the mainland. Traffic movement on Naktiduel-Kisinda road and Naktiduel-Redhakhol road has been completely disrupted since Thursday evening because of the swelling nullah at Paikmal and Bijagarh.
Even road communication between Boudh and Redhakhol has been disturbed by the overflowing rainwater in two nullas at Madhupur and Badbahali. Hundreds of vehicles, including passenger buses, have stopped on the both sides of the roads since Friday morning.
“We are ready to provide relief to the people affected in the Redhakhol sub-division of Sambalpur district. But we are helpless as the swelling nullah has hindered our movement”, a senior officer of Redhakhol sub-division said on Friday. However, he informed that situation is under control and there is no report of any casualty.
Sources said Naktideul and Redhakhol blocks of Sambalpur district received heavy rain during the last 24 hours on Friday. The official record shows that the district received 605 .2 mm out of which Redhakhol block received 130 mm and Naktideul block 120 mm rainfall on Friday. “It was raining so heavily that it becomes difficult to come out of the house. Movement has been stopped from Thursday evening as all nullahs and waterways are in spate”, a local of Redhakhol town Ramakanta Sahu said.
