A team of youths embarked on a seven-day expedition to Mahanadi from Sambalpur’s Kacheri ghat on Monday.
“Twenty-five youths, including girls, are participating in the event. They will reach Cuttack on the 6th of this month, covering a distance of about 480 km in the river,” youth activist and convener of the programme Surya Panigrahi said on Monday.
The programme is organized by the Nehru Yuba Sangathan (NYK) and supported by National Adventure foundation (NAF), Odisha chapter. The director of the Odisha chapter of NAF, R K Bhuyan, is also accompanying the participants to encourage them, Panigrahi said.
“Such events will help the youth to become fit to tackle situations like flood and other natural calamities,” eminent sport personality of Sambalpur Sundermani Barik said while flagging off the expedition.
