A fire broke out at Jyoti Vihar branch of State Bank of India (SBI) located on the premises of Sambalpur University at Burla due to short circuit on Sunday.
There three computers, five air-conditioners, fans, cash counter and furniture of the banks have been destroyed. However, cash and jewellery stored in the bank are safe. Reports said people, who were near the branch, first noticed smoke emitting from the branch in the afternoon and they informed the police. Subsequently, fire brigade was informed and two fire tenders rushed to the spot to put out the fire.
It took around one hour to bring the fire under control. However, property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed. Branch Manager Uma Charan Behera said business of the branch will not be hampered and the bank will function as usual on Monday.
