In fresh posters, the Maoists have asked people to refrain from voting during the panchayat polls. The outfit has denied extending support to candidates in the fray and anyone claiming so would be tried in Jan Adalat.
These posters were found in front of gram panchayat offices in Amanara, Kendubahara, Bharuanmunda, Chulabhat and Dharambandh in Nuapada block on Tuesday.
A letter issued by Nuapada Divisional Committee was also found pasted at Lakhna, Agren, Jhagrai, Sialati and Darlipada in Komna block.
Earlier, through posters the Maoists had asked aspiring candidates to intimate them and seek their permission. While the posters had raised apprehensions of violence and disruption of the polls, it was also believed that the Maoists will be fielding candidates to retain sway over the blocks.
Malkangiri: Describing the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections as a ‘farce’, the outlawed CPI (Maoist) has issued an order asking people not to exercise their franchise.
In a press release signed by CPI (Maoist) Malkangiri Division Committee secretary Poonam Chandar, the rebels have accused the UPA Government of handing over natural resources to multinational companies. The forests have been turned into police camps with the deployment of paramilitary forces, it added.
Hinting at lack of basic facilities in Malkangiri and Koraput districts, the release stated that the then Collector R.Vineel Krishna was abducted in February last year to draw the attention of the political leadership but the Government is yet to act on various promises made during his release.
It asked the villagers not to contest for any of the posts till the Government redresses their grievances.
